Hanging Birdbath Planter

Treat birds to a sip of water while you treat yourself to the greenery growing from this hanging planter that doubles as a birdbath.

  • 8-in clay saucer

Step 1

 Line basket with plastic

Cut the handles from two plastic Lowe’s bags and both sides of each bag to form flat plastic sheets. Press them against the coconut-fiber liner to help retain moisture. Trim away the surplus around the liner rim.

Step 2

  Fill basket with soil

Center the clay pot upside down in the basket. Surround the pot with soil or potting mix and insert the plants of your choice close to the rim. We used a mix of flowering lantana and sweet potato vines.

Step 3

 Finished hanging birdbath planter

Add the chain to the basket and hang the planter where you can reach it daily to water the plants and fill the birdbath. Center the saucer on the overturned pot, fill it with water, and water the plants at the same time.
